Overview

Join a (MASH/NASH) Fatty Liver Research Study

Researchers are studying a new medication called pegozafermin to see if it can help treat Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH), previously called Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH), a form of fatty liver disease that can lead to liver damage over time.

In this clinical trial, participants will receive either pegozafermin or a placebo (a study treatment with no active medication). The goal of the study is to learn whether pegozafermin can improve liver health and reduce liver scarring over a treatment period of about 52 weeks (one year).

Researchers will compare liver biopsy results from the beginning of the study and after one year to see whether the treatment helps improve the condition of the liver.

If you qualify, you may receive study-related care and monitoring at no cost, and your participation may help researchers learn more about potential new treatments for MASH.

About the Study

We are currently seeking patients with fatty liver for research studies focused on advancing treatments for Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH), also known as Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH).

A Pegozafermin Study

This study is testing a new type of treatment that uses gene silencing to target MASH. This research is focused on people who have specific genetic risk factors for the disease.

By participating, you could help advance the development of new and effective treatment options for MASH/NASH.

Who Can Join

You may be able to participate if you:

  • Have a BMI of 25 or higher
  • Have been diagnosed with MASH (also called NASH) with liver scarring (fibrosis)
  • Have not had a liver transplant

You may not be eligible if you:

  • Have other serious liver diseases besides MASH
  • Have had bariatric (weight-loss) surgery in the past 5 years
  • Have a history of pancreatitis
  • Have recently taken certain medications known to affect the liver
  • Have used investigational medications for MASH/NASH within the past 6 months

Not sure if you qualify? That’s okay.
A member of our recruitment team will review your medical history and medications with you to see if this study may be right for you.

What to Expect

Study Duration

This study lasts about 3 years.

Study Visits
Participants will attend approximately 13 in-person study visits and complete about 4 phone check-ins with the research team.

Compensation
Participants may receive compensation up to $2,600 for time and travel related to study participation.

Procedures During the Study
If you qualify and choose to participate, you may be asked to:

  • Undergo a liver biopsy so researchers can study liver health
  • Complete up to 3 MRI scans to help evaluate the liver
  • Attend scheduled study visits and phone check-ins with the research team

Frequently Asked Questions.

What is a Clinical Trial?

A clinical trial is a research study that evaluates new medications, devices, or treatment approaches to determine if they are safe and effective. Clinical trials help doctors and researchers develop better treatments for current and future patients. All studies follow strict safety guidelines and are carefully monitored.
Each clinical study has requirements for participants based on specific factors such as age, medical history and current health. The eligibility criteria in each study protocol are used to identify the volunteers best qualified to participate.
No. Study-related medications, tests, and medical visits are provided at no cost to you. Participation in a clinical trial should not require you to pay for study-related care.
Many studies provide compensation for time and travel. Compensation varies by study and will be explained before you decide to participate.
Health insurance is not required for most clinical trials. Study-related care is typically provided at no cost to you.
Participation is completely voluntary. You may choose to leave the study at any time, for any reason. Your decision will not affect your regular medical care or benefits.
Each study has specific eligibility criteria based on age, medical history, and other factors. The best way to find out if you qualify is to complete the eligibility form or speak with a research team member.
