Overview
Child Myopia Research Study: Slowing Myopia Progression in Children with DG1 Lenses
This study is researching a new type of eyeglass lens designed to help slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children. Myopia is a common vision condition where distant objects appear blurry, and it can worsen over time, especially during childhood.
Researchers are evaluating specially designed study glasses (frames and lenses) that children will wear daily. These lenses are being studied to see if they can help reduce how quickly myopia gets worse.
In this study, participants will be randomly assigned to receive one of the study lens types. Some lenses may be designed to actively slow myopia progression, while others may serve as a comparison. This helps researchers better understand how effective the lenses are.
The goal of this study is to determine whether these glasses are safe and effective in slowing myopia progression over time and to better understand what happens after treatment ends.
About this Study
This study is evaluating the safety and efficacy of DG1 spectacle lenses in slowing the progression of nearsightedness (myopia) in children. This study compares the DG1 lens with standard single-vision lenses to determine if the DG1 design effectively slows myopia progression.
This is a 48-month multicenter, prospective, randomized, double-masked, controlled clinical trial.
The study is divided into two primary phases: a 36-month treatment period where participants are randomly assigned to wear either DG1 lenses or single-vision lenses, followed by a 12-month rebound evaluation to determine if the effects of the DG1 lens persist long-term.
Who Can Join
Your child may be eligible to participate if they meet the following criteria:
-
6 to 12 years old
-
Have a diagnosis of myopia (nearsightedness)
- Have not received prior treatment for myopia control or have a history of contact lens wear
- Are able to wear the study glasses for an average of 10 hours per day
You may not be eligible if your child:
- Has certain eye conditions that affect vision development
- Has had previous treatments specifically for myopia control (such as special contact lenses or medicated eye drops)
- Has a history of certain eye disorders (such as lazy eye or eye alignment issues)
- Has had eye surgery
- Has allergies to certain eye drops used during exams
- Has significant overall health conditions that may affect vision
*Other criteria may apply

What to Expect
Study Duration
Approximately 42 months (about 3.5 years), including follow-up
Study Visits
About 13 in-person visits and 9 check-in calls throughout the study
In-person follow-up visits occur every 6 months for vision testing and experience surveys.
Interim telephone calls will be conducted between in-person visits to monitor progress.
Compensation
Participants may receive compensation up to $1,220 for completed study activities via a Greenphire ClinCard (physical or virtual debit card).
Children may also receive a gift card of $20-$65 at each visit.
Procedures During the Study
- Your child will receive and wear study-provided glasses daily
- Regular eye exams to monitor vision and eye health
- Use of eye drops during some visits for detailed eye measurements
- Check-ins (in-person and by phone) to track progress and answer questions
- Ongoing support from the study team throughout participation
