Overview

Amenorrhea Research Study Now Enrolling

If you were diagnosed with functional hypothalamic amenorrhea (FHA), please know that you are not alone in your medical journey.

Living with FHA may feel overwhelming, and you may feel that you have enough to do without committing to a clinical study. However, you may play a key role in helping to develop the first treatment that may help advance our medical knowledge of FHA. Every treatment that exists today is available because of study participants who actively took part in research.

This clinical study is exploring a potential treatment that may support recovery of the menstrual cycle, ovulation and improvement of bone health in women with FHA.

About the Study

We are working on developing a potential treatment for FHA. This is a phase 2 clinical research study that aims to see how well the study treatment helps the body restore the menstrual cycle and to assess its safety.

About FHA

FHA is a condition where a woman stops menstruating because the brain is not sending the correct hormonal signals to the ovaries, which then are not able to cycle and ovulate properly.

Women with FHA often have very low body fat, due to using up a lot of energy in exercise or restrictive diets. Therefore, they have low amounts of a hormone called leptin that is made by the fat cells in the body. Low levels of leptin tell the brain that it should not send hormonal signals to the ovaries, and correcting this leptin signal might improve the way the brain and the ovaries are working.

FHA can affect every woman differently. It may be related to weight loss, intense exercise, or ongoing stress. Each cause can affect your body in its own way, which means your needs might be different depending on what’s behind your diagnosis. It’s also important to know that withdrawal bleeding from birth control is not the same as having a natural period. Restoring real menstrual cycles is an important step for your overall health, especially when it comes to protecting your fertility and keeping your bones strong. Getting care can make a real difference.

What is a Clinical Trial?

A clinical trial is a research study that evaluates new medications, devices, or treatment approaches to determine if they are safe and effective. Clinical trials help doctors and researchers develop better treatments for current and future patients. All studies follow strict safety guidelines and are carefully monitored.
Each clinical study has requirements for participants based on specific factors such as age, medical history and current health. The eligibility criteria in each study protocol are used to identify the volunteers best qualified to participate.
No. Study-related medications, tests, and medical visits are provided at no cost to you. Participation in a clinical trial should not require you to pay for study-related care.
Many studies provide compensation for time and travel. Compensation varies by study and will be explained before you decide to participate.
Health insurance is not required for most clinical trials. Study-related care is typically provided at no cost to you.
Participation is completely voluntary. You may choose to leave the study at any time, for any reason. Your decision will not affect your regular medical care or benefits.
Each study has specific eligibility criteria based on age, medical history, and other factors. The best way to find out if you qualify is to complete the eligibility form or speak with a research team member.
